More To Life Than Wealth

For many years, people have been programmed to believe that wealth and riches are the ultimate depiction of a successful life - so until it is obtained, life is deemed somewhat less than successful. The ignorant, but yet, common belief is that acquiring wealth will automatically minimise, if not eliminate most of life's challenges. This is the mindset that causes the vast majority to spend their lifetime chasing after wealth. Some eventually accept their fate, believing it was never meant to be whilst some others take their last breath having never achieved it. Subsequently, the average person subconsciously beliefs they are by default, subject to living a mediocre lifestyle simply due to the lack of wealth.

Meanwhile, for those who do achieve wealth during their lifetime - especially early and quickly - it doesn't take long before they discover that wealth miserably fails in eliminating the inner battles they've always been up against. This particular group of people are uniquely opportune to realise that the real battle of life is from within and not without. Ironically, even wealth can sometimes bring new and unexpected battles upon its arrival such as guilt, loneliness, and even identity crisis.

For this group of people, despite the wealth they've acquired, there's a greater desire that money cannot buy them; a deeper yearning that power or status cannot seize on their behalf. They can tell something is still missing, but whatever it is, it's never going to be found externally. They can sense something is out of place and it feels like their very own foundation.

(Ultra) High Net Worth Individuals ((U)HNWI) suffer a unique type of challenge in that although they are deemed to 'have it all', they still suffer greatly from challenges the average person faces - if not more. Depression, anxiety, trust issues, misalignment of values are only but a few of the many chronic battles they deal with. Don't be fooled to think that they're merely joking when you hear them express idioms such as "it gets lonely at the top". This is not a mere comical statement, it is a disguised cry for help.

Unfortunately, the resentment and lack of sympathy HNWIs face from the society is a major factor for why they suffer in silence. The common notion that money is the solution to any and all problems makes it difficult for the average person to gain insight into the dark side of owning wealth. For most (U)HNWIs, the glamorous lifestyle does not reflect the inner reality, it only masks it. It is sad to see that when some UHNWIs express their struggles, they are deemed to be ‘crying wolf’ and thereby made to feel as though their struggles are not legitimate simply because they are wealthy.

Will Smith, on a recent Podcast Platform, gave a precise insight to the misery some (if not most) wealthy people live in. He said “I wish that everybody could have everything they dream to realise that it’s not it.

He introduced a concept that he named 'Cliff - Top' which he believes to be the corresponding reality of hitting 'Rock Bottom', only that it pertains to rich and or famous people. He explained it to be the reality where after obtaining wealth, one realises that there is an end to the material world, and discovers none of it can bring happiness (read more about Happiness here).

So how does one experience Life truly? By discovering it's true meaning.

The true meaning of Life is hidden in plain sight - in it's simplicity. This is something that (U)HNWIs are substantially deprived of due to complexities involved in maintaining wealth and social status. It is in the simplicity of Life that it's splendid beauty is discovered. It is also in this same simplicity that one derives profound clarity, tranquillity and harmony.

In simplicity, all chaos is eliminated, all distractions are blocked out, all embellishments are eradicated, so that all that is left is all that truly matters.

It is in this state that one's true purpose in Life can then be discovered.

Although wealth and all that it comes with can be beneficial, Life's true essence can only be discovered when it is explored independent of wealth's influence.
